      4月21日，教宗在梵蒂冈圣伯多禄广场带领当天主日三钟经时，教宗特别提到了为中国西南（四川雅安）的地震祈祷，以下为其原文：

     “我心中想着在中国大陆西南地区遭受地震灾害的人们。我们为这次强烈地震而受害和正在受苦的人们祈祷。”（（“My thoughts also go to those who were affected by the earthquake that struck an area south-west of mainland China. We pray for the victims and for those who are suffering because of the violent earthquake.” ）
